a broody SEBRIGHT?????

My 10-month old GLS has decided to go broody on me today. She is sitting on 2 little eggs....its just plain adorable

. She was the last hen to start laying..I've only gotten maybe 5 eggs out of her so far. I would have thouught one of my cochins would go broody before the Sebright. I swear, she and my Sultan hen defy the breed standard. The Sultan is my top hen and she lays an egg a day, when the breed standard says you average maybe 70 eggs a year and that the Sultan gets picked on due to the crest...not so! And the Sebright? Well, aren't they supposed to rarely lay and rarely go broody? Perhaps these 2 are trying to show up the cochins...

Sounds like your chickens, like mine, did not read the poultry books! My girls are bantams and came into lay about a week before the shortest day of the year, when we had a foot of snow! Go figure! LOL. Congrats on your broody! xx
 
I have a young EE roo and he has been servicing the ladies for the past 2 weeks. Perhaps one of those eggs under her will hatch. It would be so adorable. Funny thing is, she's the squirrel patrol and while she was nesting today the rest of the flock, including the roo, were all up in arms and hid in the coop and raised holy heck. The squirrels love their BOSS. Usually Id see my Sebright charging at the squirrels with her tail fanned out like a turkey. Hilarious! I guess the flock is on its own til she hatches an egg or comes out of her broodiness.
 
well, she was till on her little eggs this morning. But.....there is one sure way to get a broody out of the nest...put out the morning breakfast...ricotta cheese, raisins, collard greens, kale, apples and tomatoes. Oh, and last nite's mac n cheese!
 
Today is day 7 for Houdini. I just candled her 5 eggs and 1 is developing and moving. Panic, my GLC hen was in the nestbox with her tonight, so I decided to put 3 eggs under her. I pulled out 2 of the dud from Houdini. If Panic rejects the 3 eggs I will put them under Houdini. Here we go!
