Most bizarre injury I've ever seen! Dislocated beak.

Our little bantam got into a fight with our new LF rooster who we just introduced to the flock today. Darth Vader (DV) is my little 5 mo old black bantam Minorca (or something) roo. Anyway, the big roo acted like he didn't really want to hurt him, but DV wouldn't give up. At one point, the LF roo kept acting like the fight was over, he had won, and didn't want to fight anymore. He would half-heartedly fend him off and walk away without showing any sign of defeat. DV still kept jumping on him and crowing. I thought his beak looked funny, but couldn't really tell. A few min later, I followed them across the yard and caught DV. His upper beak was pushed back into his head!!! It was barely sticking out! I was freaking out! My husband and I were both home. I was really freaking out and kept saying "Oh my God, oh my God, should we kill him so he doesn't suffer? Is his beak in his brain? etc." My dh, ever calm, rock solid man that he is, just said calm down and hold him very still. He popped his beak back out into place. DV laid there with his eyes closed for maybe 30 seconds, during which I think we both thought he was dying. Then he suddenly jumped up with a war cry and tried to get away, but I snatched him up close and held him till my husband got the rabbit cage ready. He's in my house in a rabbit cage covered with a blanket. Trying to keep him quiet in the dark. The little crazy bird is crowing away. He's bleeding from his comb and his nose, but he's still crowing! His breathing is a little wheezy and he squeaks a little after each crow. I think he must have gotten some blood in his lungs. Do you think he'll make it? Anything else I can do for him? I'm glad my dh was home. I probably would have snapped his neck trying to stop his suffering if dh hadn't been there to try to pop it back into place.

Well, though no one replied, I thought I'd update. I checked on him a few hours later and he seemed perfectly fine. Gave him some food and he ate. No more wheezing and the bleeding had stopped. We put his little girlfriend in with him for company. I have been working on a new coop anyway, and I hope to get it finished this week, then we can finally separate our LF and bantams. They have been fine together up until now, but I worry DV won't give up and will keep attacking our new roo (who is a very large 6 mo old black sexlink roo, very pretty, calm and sweet.) I don't want him to get hurt. He is a my oldest son's favorite, and my dh and I are very fond of him as well. He's a sweet little thing. I never would have imagined he'd be so stupid!

He's been crowing up a storm, hope he doesn't wake my dh and kids up at the crack of dawn. I'm up before the crack of dawn anyway, but they like to sleep in till at least 6!

Hope he is OK! Sounds like he is still up to doing his rooster duties!

Glad to hear DV is acting so well and stopped bleeding. i would have freaked out! Good luck!

Do you have a picture? Is it his beak or the nail like covering on his beak that was pushed out. If it's just the nail like covering, it'll just grow back like a nail! Soft food might help him eat if he does not want to pick at hard things.
