Blind Chicken What Do I Do

ok i have a silkie hen that got sick 2 weeks ago and i have her in ever since she got the bad eye infection going on and shes slowly healing from it and so is her sister well today when i was cleaning out her eye seen that the eye was glazed over showing signs of being blind just wondering anyone out there had or has a blind chicken and how do u take care of them i mean would she depend on me to hand feed her forever?!

it sounds like that chicken wouldnt have a good life being blind i would put her down also.
but if you really want to spend years and year and year taking care of a special needs chicken well then all power to you..
every special need animal is a BIG resposability so good luck with what you choose.
 
I have a chicken that is blind. I think she can see shadows but that is all. She knows where the food and water is, and I keep it in the same place so that she does not get lost. She has stayed in the coop until last week and she started coming out in the run. I am protective of her, and I try to keep her where she is not in danger of a predator coming after her. You don't have to cull (kill) her but she will require a lot of attention. Maybe someone else will have more advice for you.
 
I have a blind hen also. But she has been blind since birth. I don't move the food or waterer. She is in her own enclosure but seperated from the general flock just by a bit of wire so they don't get in and bother her. I put new chicks in with her so she has some company but nothing big enough to pick at her. It works well because she teaches them all to eat and drink. I have to make sure her feed dish is filled because she can't see to pick up individual pieces - it has to be filled enough that she can be sure of getting something by pecking.
 
I had a blind chicken and she was the best ever. She got sick and ended up blind from it. Don't know what was wrong but the chicken wouldn't die. Anyway, she lived on my kitchen floor for about 8 months. I had a large disposable pad (like a puppy pad), a perch on top of that which was only 2 inches high. I also had a crate for her if she wanted to be enclosed. Food and water were always in the same place. She would feel her way around. She knew were her perch was to her food. She was quite chatty and everyone enjoyed her. She talked to anyone that would talk to her. Once the summer came around I was able to put her in the veggie garden because it was closed off from the other birds. She got around and would always get lost so I would just get her and put her back by her food and perch. I sure do miss her.
