What do you guys think about my silkie?
Approx 11 weeks ??
I'm pretty sure the orange one is a girl but not 100% sure on the grey one- somedays I think a boy and others I think a girl but don't know if that's just wishful thinking![]()
Thanks!

Your guesses seem right as far as I can tell. Cockerel on the splash, female buff. Yours are both gorgeous, particularly your male is a great quality.
I'll post a pic in a bit, but I had a quick question: My 11.5 week old blue silkie is very confusing. She/He has a somewhat swept back crest though it is filling in on the sides and front now, but is small, has thin legs, no wattles (but a beard, so...), a low flattish comb that is not reb/mulberry, no hackle or saddle feathers, a nice round poofy tail, etc. He/she is also the very very bottom of the pecking order. Extremely shy. No roos in the flock at all. Walks with the typical pullet stance. I just keep waiting to see if there's a crow or more evidence one way or another. I know silkies can be very tricky to determine gender, so I am not too fussed that it's confusing. But a lot of people seem to put a lot of stance in the swept back crest. Should I assume male based on that? Or is that as variable as the rest? I also am wondering if the sparse crest is because this particular bird is a hatchery silkie.
You already figured it out"Hatchery" silkie... They get weird feathers, look completely wrong, colors are basically black or white lol... Quality and breeding can confuse people soooo bad
I don't go by the crest alone, lots of females whose crests sweep back...its the TYPE of the feather that sweeps back... It's a wirier, more actually barbed kind of feather; the tail and saddles get them too, but not until way later... Females can have combs and waddles, but AGE at which waddles appear can call it... To me, the biggest thing is how they stand and act. Males generally have really upright stance, hold their head high, poofy tail high...and they aren't shy. One bit.
As always, soon as it crows or lays an egg lol, all that comes together like a big puzzle lol...until the next one![]()
