silkie sexing

The behaviors are so completely pullet. That's where the crest was throwing me. Her crest is very soft, fluffy feathers. They are just sparse, swept back. Otherwise everything, thus far, says pullet. Even the smaller chicks pick on this one.

Sometimes all I can do is go with my gut lol... Your instincts are most likely correct ;) She's getting picked on, silkies fall to the bottom of the pecking order pretty quick. Poor poof poofs just can't stick up for themselves lol

I'll stick with my feeling of pullet for the time being but keep my mind open. :)

Typically, the females do feather in faster, and the wing tips can tell you male or female...has to be literally right at hatch... By 4-5 days you can't use wing tips anymore... If mybeyes aren't messing with me, the top chick is feathering in faster, so with certain breeds it would flag that chick as female... It all really depends on breeding; if they aren't bred for it, then its just another wing feather, but a lot if breeds do feather faster as females. It does work with silkies, I've heard :)

I have two silkie chickens who are about 4 months old. One has a one row, more flat comb and the other has 3 rows and bigger comb. I can't find anything that says silkie roos have 3 rows. I can take pics if necessary, however just wondering if the 3 row comb means something.

I hat he'd out some silkies and they're 11 weeks old in these pics almost 12 weeks now. Please let me know what you think. Will add pics of my other silkies later from the same hatch.
