I am interested in knowing what is the genetic make up of the "Lemon Blue" look. I am interested on what causes their Honey colored(light orange) hackles and saddles, could it be cream? can this color(hackle, saddle) be reproduce on black breasted blue roosters?

Quote:
the lemon color is obtained the accumulation of 2 factors the first one is the lack of pheomelanin enhancers(genes that enhance red feather pigments) like autosomal red/Mahogany. The second second factor is Blue(andalusian Bl/bl+) fading effect on red pigment, all of that will give you Honey colored saddle and hackles

below rooster is a lemon blue(also called honey dunn in the game fowl circles)

Wonder if this would work using EE's.

I have some solid blue EE hens that I hatched out and now I have a Copper Marans or part Copper Marans roo. Would the blue change the red and make some Lemon Blue? Just wondering, I might try it and see.

I don't believe is possible, as BC Marans have red enhancers in them, you will need to get rid of them before you could have a Lemon Blue Maran..

Okay thanks.

In bantam cochins you breed blue to brown red to get lemon blue - brown red is also a game bird color. From that cross you will get some lemon blue birds. In the chicken calculator use black copper for the brown red.

Lemon Blue X Lemon Blue = Lemon Blue, Brown Red, Lemon Splash
Lemon Blue X Lemon Splash = Lemon Blue, Lemon Splash
Lemon Blue X Brown Red = Lemon Blue, Brown Red
Lemon Splash X Brown Red = Lemon Blue
Brown Red X Brown Red = Brown Red
Splash X Splash = Lemon Splash
