Help me with sour crop please.

This is sort of confusing. Charcoal? use/ don't use olive oil ( I would think if it's a bacterial/ fungal thing that would be bad as it would just give it another medium to live in.)
How much food should I be feeding her on the second and third days?
I feel like I'm starving her, she seems so limp and can't keep her head up.
Would also allowing access to Nutri-Drench add anything to the crop that might mess with the bacteria cleaning out?
How many times a day should I massage her crop?
 
Olive oil is only for impacted crop, not sour crop. During treatment of sour crop, I wouldn't give any oils.

I don't use any vitamins except occasional Avia Charge 2000 with my chickens or on rare occasions, a teaspoon of Red Cell in something I'm feeding a certain group who may need a pick-me-up. I wouldn't give that to a bird with sour crop.

I've lost track of the thread here. Massaging sour crop or impacted crop birds is done several times a day, but it's more for impacted crop than sour crop.

How about oregano? I have some growing in the garden- could I add that tomorrow with the ACV to help speed things up? I'm worried that she's literally starving. She's the only rambunctious bird I have (freaks out cause she can't see) And I hadn't realized that she was getting bigger but not filling out, cause it's not easy to catch her! (she's about 18 weeks and the youngest in the flock.) Four days of barely anything in her system worries me a bit... ok a lot, given the flopping around she did today.

Thanks for your advice, though! It's good to at least have a plan!
 
Okay after a couple of days ruling out egg bound, worms, etc I am now thinking my 9 mth Buff Orp. hen has sour crop. I've made her vomit yesterday (twice) and today (twice) and a fair amount of nasty smelling liquid came out. Exactly what kind of yogurt do you use? The only plain yogurt I can find is either Greek or Yacult which has probiotics in it. I've been giving her the Greek kind. She's not too happy about it but she's eating it with help of a syringe. She has lots of gurgling, burping going on. She'll stretch up, open her beak and then twist her neck in a weird twitching movement. She'll do that repeatedly throughout the day. Thanks for any help!
 
Welcome to BYC. I don't have much experience with crop issues except for treating sour crop in my buff orpington with possible internal laying problems. Sour crop can occur after a long bout of impacted crop, and also while another disease is causing problems (coccidiosis, and Mareks disease are just 2 diseases where sour crop can occur.) So I would look for any other causes for it. Plain yogurt with cultures is the best one to use, but if you can find probiotics such as Probios, that would be better. Feeding scrambled egg, wet chicken crumbles, and applesauce are some of the foods to feed, but do not feed any whole grains such as scratch or corn. Water is something to really push. Do not use oil. Massaging the crop can help, but vomiting is very dangerous, and can cause aspiration into the lungs. Sour crop can be fungal or yeast, so some have had luck using an antifungal drug such as Nystatin, Medistatin (available online), miconazole, and other yeast treatments. I am very new to chickens and learning quickly (so much to know!) So two days ago I had my eight week old chickens outside for the second time in a dog crate enjoying the field trip. As we were watching none of the chickens stepped on the other and she began to vomit. Scared the mess out of me. So upon searching and reading I believe it is sour crop. So I put her in the chicken hospital (a cage by herself). Did some research. Her crop was big, but she was acting fine. Removed her food over night and put baking soda in her water. The next morning she is still acting fine, and has pooped normal poop. I gave her just yogurt. Later that day her crop is completely empty. Yay! So I made her a mash of her chick feed mixed with hot water and yogurt. She gobbled it. I removed the remainder over night.Well this morning her crop is still rather big even without food all night. The vomit never had any kind of smell to it really. So is this really sour crop? I'm not sure as what to do now?
 
Our chicken has sour crop, but is really lethargic. She's lying face down, and her beak keeps opening. She's been throwing up, but it's slacking off when I massage her crop.
 
This reply is too late to help initial poster, but I hope it can help others. monistat will save them in a pinch. Sour crop is basically a yeast infection. I mix it with colloidal silver & dropper/ syringe feed her. It works fast and well. 1ml 2x daily. She is now prone to them so I’m going to try to periodically put a garlic clove in their water.
