Show off your small or cheap made coop

We're currently building the Purina Coop with a few simple modifications. So far it hasn't cost us a dime, although DH says he's going to buy some 2x4's. We're reusing the lumber that I had my DS's salvage from the "de-construction" of our old deck and decking screws and other misc. screws we had left over from other projects. Once we're done I'll try and post pics! :)

I have wanting to build one out of stuff I can find in my yard or get for free. I have some landscaping timbers and a small amount of wood laying around. I'm trying to find something to use for a roof now. Please post pics when your done. People on BYC are so ingenuitive.

I got stubborn and decided that I could make my own shiplap for the siding. $200 for wood. other than than that we repurposed my son's first attempt to build a fish house. Wait a sec.. I paid for that project too.

This is the only thread I will post my coop. It is made with an old table turned upside down. Plywood from left over of neighbor's chicken mansion. The "metal" roof is the old air conditioner drip pan; and the door is the pallet came with the new air conditioner. The pots are used to hold down the removable metal roof. A patch here and there as you can see. It's not a coop, it is chicken shelter. Polina and Pavela are happy.

I think your shelter looks great.

Anyone that can make something useful out of stuff that is other wise going unused has a creative side. Not only do you help yourself by recycling, but everyone else also. A chicken that has free range during the day and a safe place to spend the night has 90% of its needs taken care of. Glad you posted you picture.

The coops and runs I build for myself cost me around $0.80 a sq. ft. at the time I built them. Costs tend to increase over time. They can be setup as small as 50 sq. ft., but I normally set them up at close to 250 sq. ft. This set up is 30' long and has 150 sq. ft.

The coop and each run are 25 sq. ft.

I built coops and runs last year for $0.80 a sq. ft. The smallest size you can assemble is 5'x10', but I normally put them together between 25' and 50' in length.
.
Each unit is 25 sq. ft., so this setup has 150 sq. ft. and is 30' in length

The coop also is 25 sq. ft and is 4.5' tall. In the winter time it has screen cover extruded foam boards and radiant barrier under the tarp.

In the late spring to late fall the end of the coop is cover in poly-spun fabric and keep the heat from building up in the coop. The runs each weigh about 20 pounds. They are not pretty, but they do make moving easy and they are very secure.

I'm afraid to see how much this thing really cost. I can guarantee that it was made with less than $100 and a lot of repurposed items.

The hardware wire was purchased last year for a different project that we simply never used. The addititonal wire we picked up from Craigslist for cheap ($8, we still have a huge roll left), the corrogated roof, 2x4s, 2x2s, metal posts and the playwood for the side with the door (it's being held closed with one of my metal posts). The rest was repurposed from when I tore a fence down ealier this year. I still need to build brooding boxes, we picked up some wood pallets that were in decent shape and will be using those. The screws, washers and hinges were in the house when I bought it.

I still need to paint it to make it look nicer and insulate the sucker. It's supposed to snow today (I doubt it but better safe than sorry!). This was built this past Saturday.

Built from pallets and lumber scraps lying around , tree mesh i found at ollies for 2.99, and plastic trimming from my greenhouse .

my future chicken Tractor , picked it up for $70
