How can you tell the difference between them? The feed store had 8 different breeds in the same spot. One gal knew how to tell them apart and but her shift was over right after we got there. The gal that ended up helping us wasn't really sure and had to look it up. We picked out what we thought were 3 Welsummers. After we got home a looked them over I think we got 2 of one breed and 1 of another. 2 of them have yellowish white feet and 1 has grayish color feet. Also the two with the same color feet also have the same color wings.

Speckled Sussex have pink legs and Welsummers have yellow legs, hope this helps

Thanks Peeka52 that did help a bit. Looking back at pics of our other Sussex when they were chicks I can see the difference. So I think 2 of them are most likely Welsummers now to figure out what breed has the odd grayish color feet. I will try and get a better pic of its feet and the rest of it body. I just dont want to bug them too much their first day home.

Okay I took a few more pics of the one in question. A friend of mine says maybe it could be a Wyandotte. Here are a few more pics in better lighting. I know its hard to tell breed at this young but its so hard to wait and see. We were told they are about 9 day old today.

Same chick just a close up of her feet.

Agreed-- hatchery chickens have color variations, especially in the leg coloration. I know this for certain; I have two Welsummer hens from Ideal that have significant color and size differences but they're both definitely Wellies.

Your chicks look like Welsummers to me, so far.

Can we get a shot of the comb? I dont see even a tiny single comb, could that bee a pea-comb? Which would indicate an EE. Both of my young EE pullets looked exactly like that chick when we first brought them home. A couple Wellies and an EE should give you some lovely color in your basket! BTW, this year's crop of chicks for us were two Wellies and two EEs.

The one on the bottom left is the one in question. Its hard to see but you can tell the feet are different color too.

side view of her

She is the one on the left. Her back is a different color too.
