Moving air cells-can they hatch? Update!

My fist batch of eggs I didn't candle until day 7. One had an odd-shaped air cell, but turned out to be the only one to hatch. Now I have some more eggs. Since I couldn't tell which was the big end on a couple of them, I candled them before putting them in the incubator, and every one of them has an aircel that moves around! Is there any chance of them hatching, or should I give up now and get new eggs?

They can but odds are not good. You can help them a bit by adopting an rotation system that caters to keeping that air sack where it will do not harm. If the embryo can be kept out of it until hatching time your baby may beat the odds. Try to stand the egg on it's small end with the aid of a hair scrunchy or piece of egg carton. Do slight tilts for turning. Good luck.

If you got hatching eggs, know that older eggs are more prone to detached air sac and there is no cure for being old (ain't it the truth) so it may not hatch because it is an older egg.
 
Agree...put them in an egg carton and just tilt the carton side to side. This will stabalize the aircell at the top and the chick can get in the proper position for hatching.

I have a small bator with 36 eggs and about 10 of them have loose aircells from shipping. They are developing ok, but I'm only tilting them...not turning them completely or laying them on their sides.
 
Is it ok to use a turner?
I'm considering just starting over, but that would mean more shipped eggs, and possible the same problem.
 
I think it's fine to use a turner if it's the kind that you sit them upright and they just tilt side to side. I wouldn't toss them yet. Just keep candling them at 7 and 14 days. Believe it or not...they're tougher than you think!!
 
The only thing I have noticed is that often with "loose" air cells...comes scrambled yolks. I think there is a difference between a misplaced air cell and a loose air cell.

I hope yours are the exception

Well, I didn't really expect anything to develop, and I had to toss 1 on day 2 because it was stinky! BUT, today is day 7 and I can see veins in 3 of them, so I guess there's still hope!
