Cute little nasty, isn't he!?

I set the zap trap, hopefully I get me a cute little nasty 😉👍

I leaned something against the Summer House door to remind me to remove it before I let the chooks free….

And Then There Are 3

Having relearned my lesson by only having 2 Polish I decided that only getting one more polish to try and pair with Niamh may not have been wise. Therefore, we now have another polish.

Everyone meet Tilly.

She is a gold laced Polish who came to us from Texas. There were no polish anywhere near us so I had to have her shipped here overnight.

She arrived mid-morning safe and sound. She is just over 4.5 months old. Tilly is in the rabbit hutch under quarantine.

It took quite a bit of enhancement but it should work as a suitable place for her to serve her time.

I now have 2 different quarantines going on opposite sides of my yard.

Hopefully, by having seperate quarantines no one will bond before they are all put together in the Cluckle Hut and start learning from Niamh. I surely hope this works. If not, this is the last time I'm going to try something like this.

Hello Tilly! I am so pleased to meet you! This seems to be Polish month! Wonder what Octoberfest will bring? Hmmmmm German chooks hmmmm Appenzeller Spitzhauben???? 🤭

He'll be more willing to share food when he's not growing up as much as just filling out. Cookie's a smart one. She bears watching.
Cookie is like these two. Legendary thieves.

I hope you are right. As well as blueberries I had an apple core and I tossed it down. Tassels has recently taken against apples but Mr. Chips dove in with gusto. Tassels looked but did not call anyone for it and walked off. It was interesting to see that Mr. Chips gave up his prize and followed his Mama.
I think Pooh still likes apples so she probably ate it.

In the last day or two Mr. Chips has started bulking up and looking tall. He is still barely bigger than Geronimo but I suspect will be bigger soon.
Tassels shows absolutely no sign of letting them roost or even stray very far from her. This is the hen that was broody for 6 weeks until I put her on bricks of ice, so there is really no reason to believe she will ever give up trying to control them. I assume at some point they will stop paying attention to her - which will be a little sad. Then I assume she will lay and egg and then immediately go broody again!
:gig

Tassels on ice after 6 weeks of sitting on a nest with nothing (just as a reminder of how determined she was).

She is truly a legend. You did a marvelous thing giving her chicks to raise. You truly are a wonderful human servant.

DH doesn't like menial tasks either... like peeling or mincing food down to beak size for the chickens so I get that deflected honour...

Pomegranates for example...

Lately I have found myself cutting blueberries in half so that Aster does not steal them from everyone's beak as I hand them out. What we won't do for them.

September sure flew by fast! Now that it's October, expect some fall scenery with the chickens. And more chicken pictures in general. I have been slacking on those.
I know I already showed this but Raven seems to like dry grass that has turned tan, especially that one plant that looks like wheat.

And a throwback photo, of course. Grandma in a leaf pile after we finished raking all the leaves. I put her in there for funsies. This was October 31, 2020 and still remains one of my favorite photos.
