Here is a chick that i got from breeding my buff orpington roo to my white leghorn hens.I really like them so far. They seem less nervous and friendlier than the welsummers I have. The ones with buff and white mix seem to be hens and the Roos seem to be pure white. Thought they were pretty cool and should share.

I picked up my Alpha roo from a friend that's BCM on Buff ( a year old now) and bred him to my pure White Leghorn and got a couple of interesting roos one is posted here with a "purple" ear, 2 of 3 carried this trait, sold the other 2, also have 2 hens from the clutch ( no purple ear). Trying to get all of this years keepers from my hatches this year posted ( about 30). this Roo was hatched 3/1/12, pictures taken 6/17/12. I'm really curious about the purple ear, if anyone knows anything about this please let me know.

that's pretty cool. I'll have to watch mine.

So glad to see your pictures of the Buff Orpington Roo with a white Leghorn hen. Did you grow them out to laying age and how did they do? We just put 2 eggs in the incubator with this mix. Our young white leghorn started laying at 19 wks and was popping out XL eggs by her 7th egg. Am hoping to pass along her egg size with a longer laying cycle and possibly freezer the Roos fairly early.

bumpdity bump!

how are these crosses going for you guys?
im considering trying this.
Oh we loved them. We got some males that were white and buff and some hens that were various shades. All had great personalities and where good solid bodied. The hens started laying at 17 weeks and were sold in a heartbeat. We haven't bred more of them because we finally got a White Leghorn male. If you do this combo, you will NOT be disappointed. You can see pictures on our facebook photo albums at Chick N Stuff.
