ok we moved the hens onto grower mash when the 2 little girls were added. They are just 16-18 week old Rocks now. I keep a couple bowls of oyster shells outside for the hens. the americuana produces great eggs daily.. My Orp has been laying soft shell eggs since the feed change but if I give her a liquid calcium supplement she produces nice eggs for a couple days before going back to softshell so apparently she doesn't understand she has to eat the oyster shells. Don't know how to train her to eat the calcium rather than me guestimating and forcing liquid calcium into her beak.

Now the real problem is I noticed the 16 week old downing a good portion of the oyster shells the other day. She is not laying yet but maybe is getting ready to? the other rock is 2 weeks older and showing no interest in the shells. Should I trust the pullet has some clue what to eat or should I take away the shells? i I take it away, I will have to give 2 girls liquid and I have no idea what i am doing there so I really don't want to go down that path. Help

I would move them over to layers feed, or maybe half and half for a while, If she doesnt like the oyster shell there is a powder supplement you can add to the feed called poultry spice, i use it with my girls and they are back to laying well :)
