Hope she turns out ok!  When I hear swollen face in goats I think bottle jaw but it could be any number of things.  Wish I could offer more help.  :hugs

She died a couple of hours ago.  :hit She was one of my favorites too.... She was just fine one minute and the next she wasn't still not real sure what was wrong. Everyone else seems to be ok. I spent all say trying to make her feel better and help her and I thought when she stood up and was walking around she was gonna pull through, then I went out to check on her again and she was laying on the stall floor dead.  :hit Never had one die on me before or this happen. Are dairy goats more prone to this stuff.  Don't want to have to go through this again. What a rotten day, I bottle fed her from when she was just a day old.  She was gonna be a yr old in August.
. Are you within driving distance of your state diagnostic center? If you are and can do it, get a necropsy done so you know what you were trying to deal with. Ours charges minimal fees for diagnostic necropsies.

oh, gosh. I am so sorry to hear it. We lost 3 of our 6 goats last year, so I really do know how you feel. (one to a Coyote and two to Listeriosis, which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy...horrible disease) owning livestock is so rough sometimes when it comes to veterinary stuff. it is like you have to be your own vet.

with dogs...you take them in to the vet and if it is something really bad they do it all for you there. with goats, even if you can get a vet out to see you, you still have to learn so much yourself, it is just crazy. if you had told me two years ago that I would learn how to tube a goat, I would have thought you were nuts.

you do need to know what this is. I second the need for diagnostics.

I'm very sorry, Michelle! It's so hard when it's an animal you've become attached to.

I received my swap blue Marans eggs from CRFarm and could not be happier. The packing was perfect and the eggs are gorgeous. None broken. Thanks!!!!!!

Well for anyone who likes to plan WAY in advance I should be making my VA trip again early October. I will be going down for the national herding finals.

So sorry to hear about your goat! They are curious animals and can get themselves into trouble chewing on things they shouldn't...also heavy worm loads can sneak up on them. It sounds like whatever it was happened so fast there was nothing you could do. Figure out what happened if you can but also get yourself an extensive goat first aide kit cause, pysankigirl is right, livestock vets are hard to find.
