Minnesota!

I've got a batch of 20 RIR, barred rock, and SLW that are 17or 18 weeks and a Batch of 11 RIR and BA pullets that are 16 weeks.

I am watching for eggs soon!

Btw MCM - I put some golf balls in my nests and TaDa! Yesterday they used 4 boxes instead of one

I just kick the dogs outside and the raptors are gone. Of Course, My dogs out weigh the hawks and Eagles.

both of mine weigh 5 lbs so i made them go in the house...

Or put a wire top on your run if you don't already have it. Bird netting (the plastic kind) might be okay, but if any chance of coon and they can chew right through it.
have wire around the whole run but i dont like seeing a hawk near the yard.. im more worried about my 2 dogs that weigh 5 lbs...

We got our first egg this morning! Way way early they just turned 16 weeks. I dont expect consistent laying from her tho quite yet. Found it by complete accident, I dont have the boxes in the coop yet mainly because I wasnt expecting eggs yet. I was moving around the feed bins and all of a suddent squaak a chicken runs out of the corner and poof egg!
ohh how exciting 1st egg... hope you get plenty more...

Congrats on the first Egg @gofeedthegirls . It never gets old seeing those eggs in the nest boxes...either. That's fantastic. I wish I had some eggs right now. We're in molting season. The rooster looks like he got drug behind a truck. I have an EE that looks like pocahontus with one tail feather. And I noticed another EE left her downy shirt at the dusting spot. The Creamette has starts of a bare back from Tootsie who needs his spurs filed down again. He likes those high-dollar chicks apparently. We look rough here but I know mother nature will take care of a lot of it.

I redressed Lucy's bumble toe after an epsom soak again. It's looking pretty good. I hope it doesn't crop back up. One more dressing today then she's on her own until Monday.

The RV is packed for Lake Vermilion to catch some bullheads and DS wants to try Muskie Fishing too. He got to go to Canada with a friend to a trophy lake this summer and has a taste for bait casting and big fish. We're going with the In-laws. So I'll have to mind my p's and q's.

So. I have never heard it mentioned. Does everyone feed all the sparrows in the neighborhood? Or is it just me?
The sparrows in my Neighborhood are dewormed, grow great feathers, lay nice eggs with solid shells and get plenty of vitamins and electrolytes. This must cost me a bit. Anyone else?

I have very few sparrows other than a few chipping sparrows. BUT I feed them all, both at chicken TV time or at my wild bird buffet (that my DW hates and calls ugly) I think it is beautiful because of the birds I get.

When we do chicken TV we get a couple non-domesticated birds at the same time.

BC I think you are using the wrong approach with your in laws. Do what I did.

When with the in-laws be on your worst behavior, they will appreciate it in the long run. By your behaving badly. you will reinforce in them their theory, that their son married beneath his station in life and where he should have. In-laws want you to prove them right on this. Trust me, get drunk, act like a fool and maybe even get thrown in the local jail, they really will appreciate you more.

DH has packed his Mason Jars of Apple Pie to drink around the campfire. I'll leave the disorderly conduct to him. There's some proud moments there for FIL and MIL that's for sure.

I think they used to think I was not good enough for him. But now they realize the truth after 116 years of marriage; and that is I'm too good for him.
