I got Oreo as a feeder rat 2 years ago. We were at the petstore getting some pet food, when I saw her in the feeder rat bin. I thought that she was just too cute and friendly to be a feeder rat, so I purchased her. She soon became my absolute best buddy. It took her a long time to get used to the other rats, but when she did, they three of them became best buddies.

One day, a tragic accident, involving my pet rat, Ziggedy, and my little brother, hapened. Ziggedy didn't make it. I was crushed! But I still had Oreo. This made me appreciate her even more. She was a very fat rat; she loved her food. She would jump on the bars of her cage, and snatch food so hard you she might take your finger if you weren't careful. She was such a funny girl.

Then, one day, her last cagemate, Mocha, died from a tumor. Oreo became very depressed, and very lonely. She became more friendly towards me, so I held her more often. One day, I was heartbroken to find the beginning of a large tumor on her chest. That terrible thing grew until it was the size of a marble, them she had another one under her tail. It grew as big as a man's thumb. She started losing weight and she stopped eating and drinking. We knew she didn't have long.

She died in her sleep on January 18th, 2013- RIP Oreo. You were the sweetest little thing ever.

I was never one for rats as pets until a few years ago, when I realized how much personality they can have! And how affectionate they can be..........it was really an eye opener for me. I'm so sorry you lost Oreo, I know you must be missing her a lot. Pets leave a big hole when they go.

So sorry.

I had a rat when I was a youngster. Best pet I ever had. He was simply a 'wolf rat' that somebody gave me as a gag gift when he was still a baby. He was labeled as a mouse when given to me but when he kept growing and growing I knew I had a rat. He was a dark grey with long black hairs. He died when he was four years old. and I was heartbroken.

Although my Dad appeared rather unsympathetic at the time, he did make a small wooden box to bury my Smokey and dug a nice keep hole. I realize now my Dad was being stoic.

My dad was like that, too. He was very stoic. He didn't cry, or even look sad about Oreo's death... but I found out. He texted mom, who was at work, and said: "Hannah's rat is dead. She is heartbroken. I am heartbroken, too. She was such a sweet pet."

sorry about your rat my dad was the same over my "Mutt" who was a opossum. He wasn't too kneen on her licking his feet at night, but after it had been few years since Mutts death I came across another baby opossum (both their moms had been hit and killed on the road) he smiled and didnt say a thing.

That's nice.

I was real attached to Oreo. I could walk into the room and say "Oreo!" and she would jump on the cage. I taught her her name. Now, I walk into the room, and will accidentally say "Oreo!", and there's no Oreo. :'(
