I just finished a hatch where I had 20 perfect embryos for lockdown, but 9 didn't hatch. I've been doing some research, and I opened up one egg to see what went wrong, and I'm thinking that maybe humidity was to blame. I was trying to keep it at that 40-50% the first 18 days, then 65% after that, but it looks like that was too much. It appears that all of those perfectly formed chicks that were wiggling and rocking on day 20 died when they tried to pip and drowned. .. I have been using a digital hydrometer to check the humidity.

I'm getting more eggs on Saturday.. someone give me some help here.. I don't want to have this disappointment again.

Last year I had all but 2 hatch that made it to lockdown, and I didn't have a hydrometer at all.. I just filled the wells in the bottom of the LG bator when they looked low or empty. Here I've lost so many this year when I feel like I had done more research and worked harder to get things just where they should be....

I'm also having a hard time keeping the temp at 99.5 in this stinking thing... I got the circulated air kit thinking it would help... it seems my temp was more stable without that last year...

Hey, Witchita Falls! My husband and I used to drive there to go to the Toys R Us when we lived in Lawton, Oklahoma!

I would recommend majorly lowering that first 18 days of humidity. I never go over 35% humidity for those days. I would also start marking your air cells with pencil regularly when you candle so you can tell your eggs are losing enough moisture so you can adjust your humidity accordingly.

Okay. I'll do that.

I was just devastated to find out that those 9 little chicks didn't make it for something like me FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS obsessively... :(

Whoever wrote that guide that tells you to use humidity that high needs to change it.

I'll definitely mark air cells. I marked them on day 18 and noticed they looked more like the 14 day size. I was concerned, but didn't know what to do about it...

Obviously I should have figured SOMETHING out... poor chickies.

I never used a hygrometer until this year. I couldnt find my scale so i thought i would wing it this time. Mine are due wed and now im kicking myself. Im worried the cells are too big but im not sure because i didnt weigh them! Lol didnt follow my own advice:D
