Just thought I'd give an update on my chicks. 2/4 died within 24 or so hours of hatching. Chicks 1 & 2 are doing great though! Here's some pics of them.
Any guesses on the breed? The eggs were given to me by a friend. Not sure what kind of chickens he has.
Also, I wanted to share an idea for a simple waterer. I used 20 oz. drink bottles, little plastic icecream bowls that I got from a restaurant called red brick pizza, wooden BBQ skewers, and hot glue.
First I cut a hole in the lid. If you cut the hole too small, it won't work properly.
Next, I hot glued a short piece of skewer on each side of the lid, parallel with each other.
Then I hot glued the skewers to the bowl with the bottle cap top facing down into the bowl. This allows you to fill the bottle with water, screw the cap on with the bowl attached, and when you turn it over you have an auto waterer. I built 3 and they work great! No leaks!
