well maybe i asked for help to late
went online and it seems they have coccidiosis... I printed some pages out on what to do from a vetinarian..he is known as the chicken doctor Peter J. Brown adding vitamin E to the water can help eliminate this however corid powder also needs to be in their water..this disease is virtually everywhere and there are nine species of coccidosis and it is very deadly to baby chicks....First it is spread by contaminated feed or droppings from infected birds...the infectious oocysts that cause this can be carried by man, litter, contaminated equipment and free flying birds.....Second, the oocysts thrive in a wet environment, so try to keep your chicks as dry as possible...Third the only way to get to immunity is by re-exposure to these oocysts constantly and even then immunity is not permanent or guaranteed for the life of the bird...and they must be exposed to all nine species...
Here are some of the symptoms of coccidiosis:
1. Ruffled Feathers
2. droopy or sleepy eyed appearance
3. may drop one of both wings
4. may be reluctant to move even when prodded
5. may have an uncoordinated gate and act as if trying to step over something
even when nothing is there
6. may have a chilled appearance
7. may or may not have bloody stools
Finally, there is a newly developed vaccine for this that you just spray on their food before they eat,, really easy although I didnt see the name of the vaccine in this article...check with your vet please....I have lost 12 chicks in less than 48 hours...It is very deadly to baby chicks....
corid powder is used one teaspoon per gallon of water for seven days and 1/8 teaspoon of 3-Nitro-W as well..
skip 21 days and begin with sulfadimethoxione at the rate of one ounce per two gallons of water dont use this sulfa first as it will contribute to intestinal bleeding....anyway do the sulfa for 5 days and skip 21 days again....and then start over with first mix and follow same procedure...until they are 5 to 6 months old or hens begin laying...and then as needed also 1/8 teaspoon vitamin E in water will help cut the infestion short....keep all containers as clean and dry as possible.....a solution of one part clorox to three parts water can be used to clean brooders.... I use a normal spray bottle
I am sorry this is long and I hope I helped someone else...If you are like me you love your birds and you want to help but cant if you dont know what is wrong...Thanks so much and feel free to print this if need be
