broody hen with neck problem

Yes she's on her eggs for now but her neck is still under her. I will go take a pic and try to post it. The only problem is that she seems to push the eggs out from under her so we put her in a small box with 4in high wall just to make sure they stay under her. we're not sure if they'll hatch anymore b/c she may have moved off them in the night-- not sure

Sounds like wry neck. Get polyvisol pediatric drops (NO IRON). I don't know the dosage for a hen. For a young chick I would say 2 drops (put just inside the beak) 3 x a day. If she will eat something from your hand put the drops on that. Vit.E or anything added to water won't be the right dose unless she drinks ALL the water.

We have concluded that it is wry neck. She will eat a bit out of our hands and we did give her some pedia vites w/ no iron. Any suggestions on how to get her to take them w/o trying to force them onto her-- we had a bit of a struggle as she wanted to have nothing to do with them. Finally, should we quarantine? Thank you so much, I don't know what we'd do w/o BYCers!!

wry neck isn't contagious. My friend got her bird to gobble up the polyvisol , etc by putting the drops on a sliced grapes. If she will eat plain yogurt, you might be able to mix in with that. Or finely mashed egg yolk moistened with a little yogurt and drops etc. Maybe she has a favorite food.
