Hi from Omaha, NE! This is our first foray into chickens and we're loving it so far! We got our chicks 4 days ago and am hoping someone can help us out with how old they are - got them from Orscheln Farm & Home and the one lady that supposedly knew all about them was not working that day, and even if she had been there I forgot to ask anyway!

Rhode Island Red:
400

Buff Orpington:
400

Barred Rock:
400

Ameraucana:
400

Black Aursralorp:
400

Any help you could give would be great! I'm sure I will have many more questions along the way. :)

Thank you soooo much!
Betsy

Your "buff Orpington" and "Ameraucana" are Easter Eggers. Otherwise, they look like the breeds you were told and I'd say 2 weeks of age.

Thank you so much! I figured the chipmunk one probably wasn't a true Ameraucana, but am surprised by the buff one! What is the deciding factor(s)? Is it the green legs on the chipmunk colored one? The buff's chicks legs are kinda yellowish, maybe slightly green in places, here's a closer pic:

It's not the legs I saw, it's the white feathers (buffs are buff from the start) and the puffy cheeks. Cheek puffs as a chick = bearding as an adult.

Sorry, complete newbie here. So are you saying that a buff Orpington would not have white feathers? Is that little pale yellow chick going to be white when she's full grown??

Thanks for all the insight!!!

Betsy
