how do I sell eggs along the road/advertise?

I have searched and searched and can't find anything..
I need to know if you have to have a permit to put a sign up along the road to sell eggs? Also if i can reuse old cartons... :/

If you are within the limits of a city, contact your city government. If not, contact the county government and ask.

Most counties post ordinaces online these days, however you need to check the agricultural products statutes at the state level. Those are certainly online.

Typically, it involves inspection, licensing, having washing and storage facility. The washing solution is very specific, and it is available through sites that advertise here on BYC.

My mom does a trade. She buys a bag of food twice a year and gets eggs whenever she wants them. I had actually had a run a problems one month and had decided to sell the girls. My poor mom was so upset I kept them. I'm glad I did, so I guess mother knows best!

My aunt and uncle special requested them when we were going to visit so they made a good alternative to a bottle of wine!

We also share some with friends who are having a hard time, financially. Once in a while, when they have something extra, they send it our way. Usually it is a cooked food that is not expensive, but is more labor intensive. I think it is a pride thing, you know?

Another option if you are looking for cash that might be less rigorous than regular sales is if you sell specifically for pets, but certainly you should check that, too, as I am not positive on the regulations. Here in FL one can buy raw milk and raw milk products for pets.

I do not wash the bloom off my eggs. If someone wants them, they get instructed that the eggs should be seperated from other foods, washed right before use, and they should wash their hands if they handle them. In a full year plus, no one has had any problems. I collect the eggs daily and they go right in the refrigerator, unless the dog is getting a treat of an egg that has poop on it. Usually, though, they are very clean. The nest box bottom is a wire mesh that lets sand from dust bathing sift out.
