Hello fellow duck lovers. I have read soooo many stories on here about how many people built their house and run for their ducks. So I thought I would share my progress. I started building the home for my four ducks awhile back with my mother. We had to build this because I have four ducks now!! never wanted that many but o-well. I got what I got, I guess. Any way, I am not finished yet but more then half way through. I wanted to start sharing my story because of the approaching winter months...

I love winter! many people do not, I know. So any way..... I WILL SHOW YOU NOW WHAT I HAVE and soon After the first frost which will be soon I will make sure to post MANY pictures of my set-up for all the folks that are entering their first winter with spring-time-raised ducks, Just like me! Friendly criticism is welcome since this is my first winter. My ducks have never been exposed to the cold OR SNOW. I can't wait to see what they do when they first step in it!!!
First things first. I can't post any pictures now but I will explain the plans a bit and what I plan to do which I do not mind at all if I should change it, just tell me. :)

1. Realized a 6x6 is NOT good enough for 4 ducks to live in all day all year with no sides on it. Just fence.
2. Clean up lots of poop while thinking.
3. Visualize a good spot that would be perfect for a house and a pen.
4. How am I going to build this????
5. I know. :p
6. One side of the garage had this huge, half dead ugly as heck bush thing growing with poison ivy and everything else. Ugly. But visualized.. Beautiful.
7. I DID NOT WANT TO BUILD MY OWN HOUSE AS MY MOM DOES NOT HAVE A MITRE box and we have no building skills with that at all.
8. Decide on a kit for a plastic storage shed... With a window!
9. Dog kennel fencing on sale.... yah! P.S We are not the people who have tons of money to spend on ducks. We love our ducks dearly but we needed to stay cheap.
10. Unfortunately we did not stay cheap like I wanted :(
11. Put up the fence attach the house and boom duck set-up!

So that's how I wanted it to go and pretty much that is how it is going. Will post all the steps up to where we are at now when I get t he chance. Thank you!

Thoughts on mitre boxes: the plastic ones that you'd use with a hand saw should be relatively cheap at the HD. I'd say $20 or less, but that's just a guess. Don't let that hold you back! I don't think that I used any mitre cuts at all building mine. Find out what day the stores put out the scab lumber cart. Last year, I paid I think it was $0.16 for 2x4s... You just have to get creative.

Thank you holly. I would love to do that.... but not right now. I went with the kit for the storage house. All that needs to be done on it is put on the roof, vents and window and some other small things.

I can, It's just I am super busy but I will set aside a time to post them! :) Ii forgot to add up there that the doors need to go on too.

I am sooooooooooooooooooooo sorry!! there has been so much family stuff and tiring work going on that I have completely forgotten about this!!!! well, its about time I posted my pics and story. Holly, I considered that a lot and I would much prefer an already made house/building. there was a wooden garden shed on craigslist. it was perfect but it was sold!!!

But anyway, I did go with the keter house. I do NOT recommend it to any one else. We got what we paid for I guess. It took forever to get the right pieces that weren't messed up and blah blah blah long story. but there is a funny part, we put it together in our garage to prevent racking, and we couldn't get the thing out!! it was stuck! but we got it out and its all good! before I get ahead of myself, I will continue on! I also wanted to say that all my babies aren't babies no more!! all grown up!! they are mostly all five months old now and two of my four are laying now. Ok now lets get to my list of what I would of done differently,
1. invested in a better protection for top
2. put a drain on their pool
3. and I think for now, that's it!!

So first we started out buying a dog kennel that has big panels I cant remember the exact measurements right now :p and of course the house. but before all that, we had to clear out the side of the garage where their home would be.

I cant figure out how to get pics on here!! I have windows 8 and I just cant do it now but I will work on it tomorrow for sure!
