Does anyone know how to ferment pumpkins for use throughout the winter? Or perhaps know of a link to an article about it? I've read other posts where folks mention that they feed fermented pumpkins, but haven't been able to find a "how to."

Thank you!

I too am wondering about this. I have a big huge bowl of pumpkin innards that has been sitting at room temps for a 48 hours. It has a funky smell and a slight pinkish hue to some parts. Is this rot or fermentation? It's such a fine line. Does anyone know?

I asked on another thread and got some great replys. Here is the thread. It's near the bottom.

I ended up puréeing the pumpkin innards (12 pumpkins worth of seeds and strings with some cut outs from jack-o-lanterns) and stuck them in muffin tins and put in the freezer. I put some into my fermented feed bucket too. I now have 12 giant muffin sized portions to add to my feed through the winter. All of it would have gone to the compost pile, but now will feed my chicks for the foreseeable future.

So looking forward to trying this! Since I am not getting chicks til spring, I might just freeze a couple of pumpkins and store for them. They are very cheap here now so its just about finding freezer room!
