I need advice....On Wednesday, our Wyandotte Genny had a majorly prolapsed vent with an egg hung up. We immediately put in a warm bath. I tried to get it moved back inside so the egg could come out, that didn't work. Then I tried to break the egg, but couldn't. In a panic, I took a razor blade and cut the egg out.

I was able to get everything back after a coating of neosporin. Since that time she has been eating, pooping some and has even laid an egg. I have been doing my best to keep the area clean, but there is a ring of what looks like white poop that will NOT come off no matter how long I soak it. It smells funny and she won't tolerate me picking at it. I am keeping Prep H and Neosporin on it. The smell is really throwing me, I'm afraid it's infection. I need advice. We are having a bad time with the girls right now, we have another one with a hurt foot and I can't tell what's wrong with her at all.
 
Could you post a picture? Did you have to cut into the vent to get the egg out? She may need some antibiotics. Do you have a vet who could see her? Honey is good to put on the prolapse to shrink iWarm epsom salt soaks may help soothe and clean up the vent, or betadine soaks.

The part that looks like poo will NOT come off. I've tried and tired.
 
Do the epsom salt soak for about 25 min. Do the treatment for prolapse then put an antibiotic ointment "without" any painkiller in it. Put it on her vent that looks like the harden poop, give it a good coating. It probably is poop and has hardened on. The oil base in the antibiotic ointment will help soften it up over the next few days, don't try to take it off. Before her prolapse did she have a messy bottom? Does it stink?

I am wondering if she also has Vent Gleet. I missed the bad smell you mention. She could be treated as if she has it along with the prolapse.

I also gave my hen garlic as well. This treatment worked for my hen. I did not use yogurt, I put the probiotics from the capsules into the food and water. You may need to consider tube feeding her if she not eating or drinking for you. Also deworm her and treat her for mites and lice.

I agree with Pwand. Oh I forgot to mention that you can keep her in a darkened crate for 16 hours a day to prevent her from laying eggs. This may take a couple of days though. She will eat and drink when the light is on. Also reducing the feed a bit will help to prevent laying. I agree, I think she may have a vent gleet. We are snowed in so I will do the best I can to treat with what we have on hand. Thanks so much for the advice! It's just what we needed.

Well we just finished trimming feathers away, soaking for 30 minutes in epsom salts, getting a lot of the white scabby stuff off, applied honey, prep H, and Neosporin. She like the bath so much this time, the epsom salts made a big difference. I think she may have gone to sleep, but the house is rather noisy. This is the best it has looked in days.

This is my frist flock and also first time with hens laying. This is one of my sussex hens. My husband first noticed this yesterday but did not let me know her rear looked this way. He simply said she was moving slow and not eating with the other girls which is sometimes her normal behavior. Can you tell me if this is the same issue spoken of in this this thread? If so what should we be doing to help our lady? These are as clear as I could get, she would not allow us to catch her.
 
I am a first timer as well, so I'm not really anyone to answer. It's hard to tell from the pictures. I don't think this is the same as what my girl started with. Her insides came out with the egg. Does look like she is having some kind of troubles. Cutting the feathers away helped me to see better what I was looking at. It sounds crazy to say it out loud, but the epsom salts bath really worked wonders and she likes it. Maybe if you can do that you will be able to see better what exactly the problem is.
