Well the wife and i have been talking about getting some chickens for years , and the other night i herd her tell her friend that she desperately wanted some chickens , so today on an impulse, we ended up with six golden comet chicks!

On there way home!

i converted an old pond into a brooder on the front porch

they seem to l like it they have been eating and drinking well!

Guess i have my home work to do now!

awww, how cute !! is the top on well enough to keep a coon out? hate to hear you woke up with none. and did you get a temp. of 90-95 degrees and room for them to move away from the heat if they want? all you have left is a coop and run. they grow fast. lol oh, and how many trips have you made to go look at them?

i don't have a thermometer here but intend to bring one home from work tomorrow, I've been keeping and eye on them at about two hour intervals they seem comfortable ! there in an enclosed front porch the top is just an extra precaution! but its weighed down well I'm still very nervous don't know that ill get much sleep :)

could you maybe keep them in a garage or shed? just to be safe. If your looking for coop ideas there is a lot of good ones on this site under the "Coops" tab.

its a completely sealed front porch top half metal screen, bottom half hardy board with a latching front door! a lot safer than my lean to of a shed next to the woods that has no power. i just put the lid on to keep little buggars from popping out and dog noses wandering in .

hahah, ya, you can pretty much tell if their too cold by their actions. sounds like you can get some sleep.
thats what i figured i set and alarm to wake me when temps are supposed to hit there lowest tonight ill check then if they seem fine ill sleep till work in the am! if cold I'm going to give them a nalgene bottle full of boiling water in a whool sock to snuggle up beside
