Committed Now! any Pointers welcome?

some how that doesnt surprise me. in a 18in. pond they will be fine im sure. unless your temps are super cold out. im just throwing a guess out here but i would say if it doesnt get below 40 they should be ok. and it is a GUESS.

Well we've made it through the first two nights well, it is supposed to get a little cooler tonight but my confidence in there set up is stronger and ill continue to keep an eye on them as I'm part insomniac ! let them out to play for about an hour today wile i cleaned there brooder out! i sprinkled some sand and starter feed over there play pen area! it was really cool watching them! Even though there young they have natural instincts to scratch , peck and otherwise scavenge ! the wife and i took turns sitting and watching over them !

Each day we have been working on trying to get them used to be handled , as well as training our dogs to them!

Im going to get the materials this weekend to put-togather a A-Frame Tractor< pics of this to come in future!

So far I'm Really Glad we are committed. For Far to long it felt like we would never have chickens of our own do to the feet of commitment! but now we just have them to look forward to!

Don't know for sure the exact cause , but it caused me to rebuild/redesign there brooder, they are no longer in the pond i feel it may have been to small, they now have plenty of room to move around

The two variables that were different today, was i gave them a little banana this morning before i went to work, and the temps got up to about 80 today

im not using any medicated feed so disease or sickness could have very well been an issue?? but i don't know anything for sure!],
its saddens me a bit , I'm happy the rest seem healthy lets just try and keep them that way!

could it be possible it filled up on sand and not food? i dont give mine anything until they are a month old but i think i am over protecting. you have baby chick grit? if you want to give scraps you should start them on the grit. including that grass i bet they were munching on. some times they just die for no reason.(failure to thrive) and something a lot of people dont think about, is the grass been fertilized or treated with any thing? sorry for your loss.

I hadn't started them on grit, but i had sprinkled some sand over the area i let them play in outside, as well as leaving a little pile in the play are, but there was none in there brooding are , they all seam heathy now , just want to keep them that way!

Rain let up enough i could let my girls out to act like normal chickens for a bit, wile i cleaned there brooding area replaced there bedding washed there roost, feeder, and waterer !

Recycled old playhouse for chicks to have some place to hide if they fill threatened while free ranging in backyard
