Twice today my duckling (12 days old) has made a noise like he was in pain, and then lay on his side is if he was paralyzed. A few seconds later he got up and ran into a wall like he was dizzy. This has happened twice now. He's been acting lethargic and has not eaten much today. I'm very concerned, it almost seems like he had a seizure.

I took a photo the second time it happened. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I'm very worried.

Very likely was a seizure. I have seen that in ducklings that were not strong enough to survive. I'm sorry.

You can get some Sav-A-Chick vitamins into the water (or Poultry Drench, I think) just a vitamin solution containing Niacin and gently dip the bill into the vitamin water.

I don't have access to poultry vitamins at the moment, unfortunately. He had three of these seizures and was lethargic all day, but seems a bit better now. He is eating and drinking, and walking around a bit. However, he seems to be walking with a strange gait, as if he has a little bit of a limp. Any ideas of what might be causing this? He's about 12 days old and I think his diet before I got him a few days ago may have been vitamin deficient.

If there is Poly-vi-sol without iron, that may help. Also, some sardines packed in water only, no oil or salt - just a teaspoon a couple of times a day has some niacin in it.

Something else you may try is if you have B Complex vitamins, use the niacin amount - B3 - as a number to go by and get 150 mg niacin per gallon of drinking water and go with that.

Or, you could add brewer's yeast to the food.

Thanks. I will get some sardines tomorrow and feed him that. In the meantime, I squeezed a tomato in his water to give him some niacin. He's been pooping a lot, five times in the last hour. Should I be worried about that?

Thanks. I never felt the need to count before, but now I am watching him so closely that I am worried about everything. He really has perked up since my original post, so fingers crossed.
