So when are the chicks supposed to go on layer feed?

You should only switch them over to layer feed when they are getting close to Point of Lay (POL) as layer feed has too much calcium for chicks.

When do you take them off medicated feed?
By 12 weeks, they should have developed their immunity and medicated feed is not necessary. However, always having powdered Corid on hand, in case of an outbreak, is a fairly standard precaution.
In fact, using powdered Corid in place of medicated feed is an option many people employ. The greatest risk of exposure to coccidiosis is from week 3 until week 9 as the chicks are hitting the ground and being exposed.
