I have a Kraienköppe rooster that is having a severe gender crisis, I know he is a rooster by seeing him do the deed, crow all the manly stuff roosters do, but now he is doing a insanely henny thing... He is going BROODY, I mean full out I will tear your hand off while sitting on the nest growling and snarling. I do have a broody showgirl with him, could that be effecting him? If not...Any ideas??

Are you absolutely positive that this is a rooster? I've read that sometimes a hen will ACT just like a rooster, including mounting other hens and crowing, if there's no other rooster around. Do you have any place to put him to be alone for a couple days, see if "he" lays an egg?

I am positive! I'll get pictures tomorrow.

He got the hackles, all of that.

We are planning on separating him, but I check his pevic bone and nothing going on there, in the pasture (he is separated in another pen most of the time unless allowed to do a little free ranging) HE fights the one rooster we own, and that rooster only see him as a rooster, not a hen at all.

That is really funny! Have you tried putting eggs under him?

You said there was a broody showgirl with him? Is she sitting on eggs? He could just be wanting to fully experience parenthood. I've heard of roosters setting beside their favorite hen throughout the entire broody period and then helping her to raise the chicks.

He is under a year old (forgot to add that)

Here is the pics, yea he tries to still the other broody eggs hence why he is bald :/

Just getting back to this thread. That is definitely a cockerel. Did he manage to hatch any of the eggs?
