I am a retired truck driver of 40 yrs, female, 70 yrs old. I started with just 2 black and white, 2 white leghorn, 2 Rhode Island reds and 3 Araucanian (spelling?) 1 which was a rooster. One Araucanian hen laid 26 eggs and I was running around town looking for an incubator. I let her sit on 6, and had 13 hatch in the incubator and taken out to mama. Half of her eggs were roosters. I wound up giving away 13 roosters because the constant fighting and crowing was too much for my hens and me. I sell the eggs for just enough to pay for their feed. Also have 2 Guineas. Thanks to the chickens and Guineas, there are 3 rattlesnake skeletons in the chicken run. They have a fence to keep out coyotes and other predators, but they hop over it during the day for bugs and dandelions. A 6 ft welded wire fence goes around the house and 2 acres to keep coyotes away from my kitties.I was Goggling chicken fleas when your web site came up. Looking for anything besides what I use. Guess it's the best. Other hobbies are gardening and oil painting. Enjoy making "prayer shawls" for the church. I live on 4 acres with 4 rescued cats and the chickens. My son lives in another house nearby. I have 4 children and 5 grandkids, 3 just 2 miles away. We bike the back roads a lot.
