My chicken has a prolapse and every website/forum I've checked says to use preparation H to take down the swelling. Do I NEED to use preparation H? I dont have it and I can get it on amazon for 20 bucks and get it sometime tomorrow, but I'd like to take care of this now for her sake. I know I can use Vasaline and lube it up nicely to make it easier to push it back in, but I'm just nervous that the swelling is going to be too bad. Overall, is preparation H mandatory?

You can use honey, or sugar mixed with a drop or two of water also. Then I would use a lubricant to push it back inside. There are so many kinds of PrepH for sale, and the extra strength one with pramoxen probably shouldn't be used on chickens anyway because it has pramocaine, a numbing agent that may be toxic in certain amounts. Witch hazel is the ingredient in PrepH that you would want, and you can buy it at most drug and grocery stores. Here is a link to read: http://beautyofbirds.com/Prolapse.htm
