Found peafowl...what is it?

This "peacock" appeared in our friend's yard and has been living under their deck for the past few weeks. We will probably go pick it up this weekend to bring to our farm as they have not been able to find its owner. Can anyone here shed some light in what it is? My guess is it is female due to the lack if train, but I don't know much about these critters.

He's young, that is why he doesn't have long train feathers yet.

He looks pretty darn tame, congratulations on your find, they are wonderful birds and i have had lots of fun learning with this group here.
Peas take special care like regular worming and such so some of us here will try to educate ya on them mabe even before you ask a question

I just looked at your other posts and see you have had a problem with coccidiosis with your chickens in the past?
Pea health is not my specialty at all! But I do know that peacocks are very susceptible to coccidiosis and can get it from chickens.
So hopefully one of our pea health experts will jump in here and give you advice about keeping your new peafriend safe!

Sorry about that, it looks like your coccidiosis problem is cleared up now? I just got a little worried! Hopefully you don't need advice on this topic!

Yes, the coccidiosis is cleared up in my flock of laying hens and we have been advised by the U of MN poultry experts to treat for it prophylactically twice per year. I plan on treating the peacock immediately during his quarantine. He will be nowhere near the hens but in their old coop which has been vacant since January.

I would love unsolicited advice! Feel free to point me to any resources you think will help!
 
Well he is home with us now! Here are a few pics I snapped when we got him into the coop. Any ideas on breed or age? Is a year old still a good guess? I still have so much to learn!

He looks in good overall health but I am wondering if he is molting due to his recent change of address. Our friends said he showed up at their place about a week ago. He does have some feather loss in the front of his neck but I don't see any mites.
