hello. my beautiful rooster called spot has been lifeless and can barely stand for about a day. another one of our chickens just died from similar symptoms, so i'm resorting to coming here for help. he stands up and looks like he's going to poop, but can't. he also barely will eat and drink anymore. does anyone know what's wrong with him?

Withhold food for 24 hours. Give a laxative solution of 1 oz of molasses mixed in a quart of lukewarm water for 4 hours only. You may have to syringe feed the bird if he isn't drinking on his own. Be careful not to aspirate the bird. After that, give poultry vitamins-electrolytes in water for a couple days. If, in a 24 hour period, the crop is emptying, only give soft food such as buttermilk soaked bread or moist crumbles for a day or two. Pay attention to the droppings and report what you see. Once the bird has his appetite back, I'd suggest deworming him with Albendazole or treating for Coccidiosis depending on condition of droppings.
