x2Never, ever, pull on the umbilicus or navel! If it is dried up and too long, simply snip it shorter. Don't squeeze, either!

Ok, now, I am going to assume that you are following either the user's manual or some outdated source that is telling you that 50-55% humidity is what you need for lockdown. I'm also going to tell you that in the majority of cases, (everything has it's exceptions) that most people find that using that high of humidity for days 1-17 is to high and there is a higher chance of chicks drowning at lockdown. I'm going to encourage you to check your air cells, (usually done at days 7/14/18) if you haven't already to check their progress. (The reason we control our humidity.) If the air cells look good and you are confident that they are big enough, just tell me to zip it....I can handle it, SC tells me all the time... I'm going to give you a link to look at so you know what you are looking for if you don't already: http://letsraisechickens.weebly.com...anuals-understanding-and-controlling-humidity
I don't mean to sound like a know it all (SHUSH SC and iron my cape...) I just hate seeing newbiews to hatching get to the end and not have a good hatch. If your air cells need to be adjusted you still have time to change your humidity levels and allow for growth before lockdown.
When you want to show someone the air cells, the best way to do it is to candle, mark the air cells with a pencil by tracing them, then take a pic of the eggs with the air cells marked. It's easier to see the air cells and the chicks development when candling if you candle by shining the light down into the top (air cell end) of the egg. You'll get a much better picture than candling from the bottom or side of the egg.Air cells look ok to me. .. I tried to post photos but it won't let me. I also took a few of the ones I think may be bad. .. it's hard to get decent photos tho

It looks like they are between 7 &14 days. I'd check them again at day 14 to make sure that they are progressing well.
Air cells look ok, but that other set of dark pics, insides look clear to me??? I'm sorry I can't remember how many days have these been incubating?
Just candled my latest batch of eggs (day 3 for the chickens). I pulled 15 Silkie/Sizzles, 13 clears and 2 blood rings. The rest look great though. I'm also happy to report that at least 5/6 of my black Spanish turkey eggs are developing! I've never actually seen my tom mate my hen, he just sort of gets of her back and stomps on her, so I was surprised! The RIR eggs I did check were looking good too, though I didn't check them all. Anyway, I have some shipped eggs coming tomorrow, hopefully. Lavender Orpingtons and some EE mixes. I needed the incubator space
