A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I have a light Brahma roo who decided he'd challenge my tom for the turkey hens.  He stuck his head through the gate and is lucky that the turkey considered him an idiot and let him off easy.

A couple weeks later I moved the tom to the chicken coop and the roo challenged him again.  The roo now heads the other direction, the backup roo is allowed to crow, and the turkey tom mounts the chickens (doesn't really do anything, just makes them go flat).  I may end up with broad breasted red sex links...

That's funny!!!!   :yuckyuck

My Partridge Chanticler picked a fight with JJ. It was so funny. they would hit chests and then the rooster would be under the turkeys legs, the turkey could not see him and was turning in circles to find the rooster.  Roosters and turkeys fight differently, or mine do, so no one gets hurt and no real blows are struck...

BUT all my guys seem to be tougher when there is a good secure fence between the adversaries...

BTW refill time...

My toms are the peace keepers. No one is allowed to fight but them. Any squawing brings the big boys running. They literally step on anyone who gets out of line until they either squirm loose or stop squirming & the tom lifts his foot to stomp & they take off running.

Walnuthill if you get broad breasted sex links I was to see pics!

Now that sounds like a funny fight.

My Light Brahma cross roo is a big bird, probably 8-9 pounds. He's half the weight and half the height of the Narragansett tom, and they are about the same age and started out being raised together. But along the way, I split them up to be with their own kind.

The turkeys tend to grab each other by the snood and pull and twist, and that's what he tried to do with the rooster's comb. The rooster got his licks in, both have scratched up faces and no serious injuries. But they avoid eye contact with each other, so the roo must have put up a pretty good fight.

Quote: Roosters are amazing and will fight just about anything! I put a tom in my young cockerel pen trying to break up a fight between toms and 7 cockerels jumped on him. I had to fight the cockerels off to get him back into his pen. I had no place to put him but back in with the tom that wanted to fight. So I had to run some wire down the middle of the pen to separate them. Whew that was to much!

The next generation has started to emerge!!!

Ethel and JJ are going to be parents again. I put the eggs into the hatcher last night and this morning I have one with a pencil eraser size hole in it. I can see the little beak working like crazy.

It is so exciting on hatching days. No activity from the Diamond encrusted eggs, no surprise there, huh?

I think you meant wire, but when I read this my mind was imaging a "wife" running to save the tom!
