I think I can tell pretty well by the feathers, but just because this is mixed with a silkie, and it's so small, I can't see the comb by the feathering, I want to be sure. The mom is a silked EE, and the dad is a Black Swedish X Americauna for melanistic gene with blue eggs.
Is this a Male or...
I have had my baby chicks from Rural King for 13 days now and only JUST realized that the chick who is outgrowing the others by far might be a male.
He/she is a Starlight Green Egger, according to the sign, and is at least a third bigger than most of the other chicks. Big, thick legs and a bit...
Good day all…
I have 8 baby chicks which are 4 weeks old. This is my first time having chicks hatch in my care. They are mixed leghorn and Ernie the dad is a Polish Black Crested rooster. One is a cross beck so I won’t be bartering or giving him or her away. I have 2 Roos already and not...
Hi all!
I had a thread earlier about the gender of my chicks.
Thread 'Two 5 week silkies'

Currently my chicks (named Alfredo and Katsu) are on 6 weeks old. Here is the best photo timeline I have of them so you all can watch...
I know it’s too early to tell, but there are rather obvious characteristics with this 2 week old chick!
1) Has light feet compared to my other ‘female’ Barred Rock chick
2) Feather growth is very slow compared to my other chicks (who are the same age)
3) The small feathers it does have are...

Hey everyone! I picked these chicks up this weekend, so far out of the six I’ve narrowed down I have:
1 Australorp
2 Rhode Island Red OR Easter Egger
1 Buff Orpington (who I strongly think is a rooster)
Last two I can’t figure out is this brown/black pattern pullet (who’s pretty!) & then the...
Hi everyone! I’m new here, but this website has helped us SO MUCH with raising our first baby chicks. We have six girls (I think)! A lavender orpington, a silver laced wyandotte, a buff, a cinnamon queen and two Easter eggers. I’m curious about my little lavender, Lottie. She’s had this comb...
Hi! I am new to chicken raising and I recently purchased 8 chicks from TSC. I have had them 5 weeks. I have two straight run barred rocks, and they couldn’t look more different. One is very dark with minimal bars, and already has a pretty significant comb and wattle compared to all other chicks...
So I bought for welsummer chicks and a cuckoo Maran chick the lady said they were all pullers but felt it best to post here and get some opinions from others.
My questions is do these all look like females or possibly any Males ?? Ive seen a lot of educational post of here and people’s insight on the genders of chicks so I thought I would ask the lady said there most likely all pullets !! Ether way I’ll keep all my fuzzy baby’s 🙂
so if anyone would...
So my nubby little girl is looking more and more like a little boy every day. I'm about 90% sure this one is going to crow. Notice the reddening of the crown, the wattle development, pointy wing feathers, and undefined tail feathers which seem to curl downward. All the signs of a cockrell. Such...
I've had some suspicions about my BR chick.... think it might be a boy, but I certainly don't have a trained enough eye to be able to be certain. It could be too early to tell.

I am new to BYC and I am still trying to find my way around the site so I am not sure if I am doing this right or not but I just got my second clutch of 8 baby chicks. My first batch was of 6 Buff Orpington hens that 3 and they are now a year old but sadly 3 have passed away so we decided to...
Hello! I am hoping to start raising 3-4 chickens in my back yard very soon, so I have found you all to help me!
I am in a small town on Cape Cod and currently have 1/3 acre with a modest home and 3 out-buildings. I enjoy a pet rabbit with an outdoor enclosure+ hutch, 2 border collies from a...
