Mixed coop- new chicks and established hens- what to feed?

Hi there! Wondering what folks do when integrating their young chicks into the established flock- when it comes to feeding? Im thinking of feeding everyone the chick starter feed until the chicks no longer need it… Any concerns with this idea? I can’t think of any ways to feed them separately...

Is it possible to give flock to many earth worms?

I am going to start a earthworm (not mealworm yet) bin. Is it possible to give them to many earth worms? Can I just fill a large bowl and let them eat what they want? I want earthworms to be as large of a part of their diet possible. Thx,

How much feed does my outdoor flock really need in a day?

We have chickens both indoors and outdoors. We have chickens in a makeshift chicken tractor we move at least once per day. How much fermented/mostly fermented feed would ~30+ chicks (~2+ months old) need? I have been filling/mostly filling a 5-quart feed 1-2 times a day. Thank you.

    16% or 18% Nutrena Feed

So I switched from Dumor 16% to Nutrena Soy-Free 18%, due to molting and the colder weather. However, I am considering changing to the Nutrena 16% feed, since its getting warmer. I like the soy-free feed though, and cannot find another nutrena feed that is soy free. Only the 18% is soy-free. I...

    IKEA fodder hack :)

So far this fall I've been doing some sprouting as well as a bit of fermented feed, which naturally led to thinking about growing fodder since green foods will be scarce here in Alberta for the winter months. Though I can definitely have an 'all in' approach to something I'm not sure a full...

    Feeding kitchen scraps

I’m wondering how everyone feeds their chickens kitchen scraps or treats? Mine tend to pick it up and throw it around the run which is sand. Wondering if anyone has any gadgets they’ve created to try to keep the food in one spot ?

    Mixed flock feeding advice

Through a lot of research on this site, I think I finally have a workable feeding plan for my mixed flock of chickens and guineas. I'm hoping someone who is more knowledgeable can confirm this is good for them! I have 18 7-week-old chicks (mixed breeds), 1 adult hen of unknown heritage, and 4...

    What Am I Doing Wrong?

I have had my small flock of 5 chickens for a year-got them from a hatchery as day-old chicks May 2, 2018. They have a well-made, roomy coop, an attached covered run area, and a new open-aired run that is covered by wire to keep out hawks, which are plentiful here. My flock consists of 2 BA, 2...
