Hi Everyone, I feed my ducks Dodson and Horrell pellets each day, mixed with a blend of corn, seeds and sweetcorn (I think) from the farmer over the road who has had poultry a long time. They get fresh kale/spring greens most mornings, dried mealworms and roam for buggs all day. Is there...
What do you feed your chickens? I find that no matter what layer pellets we use they shovel it out all over the coop. They love salad but I don’t think it’s good all the time. Hard to please chickens.
Hello!
I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I’ll try anyway. My ladies are about 28 weeks now. I’ve noticed over the past couple weeks one of hens is a lot lighter than the other four. I’ve also been short one egg everyday too. Not sure if that’s connected. Anyway, I have one...
Soooo duckies decided to make a big ole pile of their Purina Duck chow beneath the plate of new stuff I take out everyday. What do y’all with Purina Duck chow do with the excess stuff on the ground?
**Ground hog not included**

hello i have 5 and a half week old chicks and i know that at 6 weeks you are supposed to start mixing their chick food with the regular chicken food so i got this food but then i read that feeding them laying food before they lay is bad so is this stuff ok or should i get regular food? is this...
Hi, our chicken run’s ground is covered in wood chips as in the winter it gets muddy and I have a couple of hens with feathered feet. A couple of hens in my flock love to forage which is really good to see. But on the other hand, they are kicking wood chips into the food and water. They like to...
At the behest of a BYC user, I got Purina Duck pellets. They are 19% crude protein. Is this too much for my 9 week old Pekins? Will they begin to develop Angel Wing, or has that time passed? If it is too much, I can cut it with uncooked oatmeal. I also add an additional 2 TBSP of Brewer’s Yeast...
Hi. I was wondering if I were to leave a dish of food out to attract flies and get them to lay eggs then raised the maggots to be fed to the ducks , is that safe? I heard one risk of feeding maggots is botulism but I believe that’s only if the maggots have fed on an infected source. What about...
Our hen gave birth to three chicks, two of them hatched in time, one was delayed by some hours but he managed to hatch by himself, then we noticed that eventhough as a baby he was the healthiest, he was growing really slow, like the other chicks are a rooster and a hen, they are both ready to be...
Hello this is another update on my cutie bulbuls.. Two of the bulbuls unfortunately died.. They had a really bad liver issue... But! One bulbul was able to survive and he grew so rapidly that he got a tail and his belly feathers are starting to grow! Now there is two types of bulbuls red vented...
Our chicks are 10 & 12 weeks old and we are looking to move them into the coop at night which will mean they have access to the older (2 yr old) chickens feeders. Looking for advice based on their age. we are getting 2 more bags of the chick starter food to last the next two weeks and hope to...
Hi guys! I supposedly have two 10 month old peacocks (one is white so we don’t exactly know) and their outdoor pen is pretty empty since they ate all the grass. I am wanting to put in some small plants like grass or bushes for them to interact and eat. What kind of plants can I put in there that...
Hey y’all!
So my feeding plan for my two Pekin Ducks has been as follows:
1st two weeks of life - Chick Starter with Diatomaceous Earth w/ 2TBSP Brewer’s Yeast per cup of feed
after the two weeks, I began cutting the chick starter with uncooked oatmeal at about 20-25% oatmeal, same...
I love reading the idea of fermented feed and the health benefits. I read up on it, but I always have an issue on how to even start. All of DIY tutorials always say to start with “chicken feed”. What exactly is this chicken feed? Can I use the layer pellets from the feed store? Or do I have to...
We slipped 11 chicks under my broody Barred Rock 5 days ago. We notice she‘s a very good mama. I had no idea that she would feed them treats (that I give her) or that she would show them where food was and break up their crumbles into even smaller pieces. Fascinating! but that’s my question...
Good evening! I am wanting to ferment my chick feed. I have searched through multiple threads and looked online, but I just can’t find the answer. What ratio of water:feed do I use? And how much do I make at a time? What container do I use? And how much do I give them? Is it just like basic...
My duck is 2.5 weeks old. Having trouble walking. One leg isn’t working. Cannot support its own weight for more than a few steps. It has been eating and drinking, but it has taken convincing to get it to. It also has a very tight neck. It’s poop is pretty inconsistent to say exactly what type of...
