    Hen with purple comb

I’ve got a 1 and two month old blue Andalusian who gets a purple comb on the back and tips. (Pics included, but it looks darker in person). It isn’t all day, just usually in the evening when she’s moving around a lot more. I wasn’t too concerned at first because she has a pretty big comb, but...

Introducing chicks to flock (hatched under Broody Hen)

I am looking for some advice on what to expect in the next steps of my flock introductions. It's my first time introducing a broody hen's chicks to the rest of the flock. I have introduced new birds before, but always as pullets, never from chicks. All hens were previously together before I...

    Bonded brooder Mates?

I posted recently about needing to rehome 2 roosters. Question - I have a hen and a rooster, both 6 months old. They were brooder mates and very bonded. Can I rehome the rooster without her? Will she be heartbroken? Should I try to rehome both together as a bonded pair?

    Vent prolapse

My female muscovy hen (3 years old) has started to lay which seems to have made her vent prolapse recently. It does not seem to be swollen, but i was wondering what i could do to help her vent get back in?

What should I price this hen at?

I hatched her myself and was told she was an Ameraucana. She came out of a blue egg but she’s been free ranging so I have never actually seen her lay an egg to know what color she is laying or even if she is actually laying yet. But she should have blue eggs. I’m having to sell my whole flock...

Hen chewing on other chickens tail feathers?

I have a hen that has some wacked out looking tail feathers compared to the rest. I caught one of my other hens just… gently chewing on her tail? Nothing malicious or anything… just… odd…? (Hen on the left is the chewer, while hen in the middle is the chewee)

The infamous question: Roo or Hen?!?

Ok so I’ve been a little in denial because we’ve been hoping for only one rooster but I fear we have 3 roos out of the 4 chicks we got from a friend, who hatched them in an incubator. These chicks are 8 weeks old. The are buff Orpingtons and the gray and black ones are Green Queens. So the...

    Hen or Rooster? Chick update

Hello, I posted a thread maybe close to a month ago wondering if one of my new Olive Egger chicks was a male. I read about the males having a dog on their head, but I’m not sure the parents lineage so I was informed it cannot be determined if it’s accurate or not. Here are updated pics of my two...

    Hens or Roos?

I have 2 supposed hens here - 12 weeks old, but I’m wondering what others think. The neck feathers on both of these the pattern gives the illusion that the feathers are pointed but the actual feather appears rounded at the ends on the neck when I look closely. These two are likely Easter Egger...

How good is good enough to put my chicken with heatstroke somewhat outside?

I had a chicken with heatstroke a few days ago and she’s been residing in my room so I can keep a close eye on her. I also don’t have a dog crate to put her in… I pick up any droppings and disinfect the area daily, have an air purifier, and keep it well ventilated. Though, I will be away for...

    Odd hen behavior?

I have a couple hens that, when I approach them, squat down, spread their wings slightly, and almost do a little dance with them stomping their feet. One of them is newly laying and the other just came of age. Is it fear or defensiveness?

    Earlobe Injury

I noticed my 17 week old hen had an injured earlobe with a strand of skin hanging off. Immediately I separated her, cleaned it, and sprayed chicken antibiotics on it. So I have two questions: How does my chicken hospital look? Is there anything I should do in regards to the strand of skin?

Advice & Recommendations - Chickens Tail Down

Hi there!! Just looking to see if anyone has any experience or recommendations for one of our hens. Starting Monday she began walking with her tail down (almost waddling like a penguin). She was promptly separated from the other hens to monitor in case she was egg bound. Also gave her a few...
