I have a 6 or 7 week old Quail and a bunch of 2 week old quail... can I put the older Quail in with the peeps? The older quail has been raised in the same coop as my chicken peeps and i would like to put him in with his own kind but I'm not sure how it would do with the babys? Will it be ok ? Or No?
Hello! My husband and I have become avid duck lovers after purchasing 4 straight run ducklings. They were sold to us as Rouen ducks but we’re almost positive they are mallards. We lucked out and got three females and one male. We’ve had them over a year now and let one of our females keep a...
I've created an account on this website 6 years ago I believe, I just was never active until now... talk about procrastination lol! I did not start out with chickens, our first birds were guineas, I think we had at least 30. Then we got 70 pheasants and then 10 or 15 turkeys. We no longer have...
Hello, we have hatched some quails and are about 5/6 weeks old! We introduced them into the adult batch and straight away the male got scaled and killed I was warned this was going to happen but I went down today and realised all the other newbies were really scruffy so I picked them up and...
We live in Washington state with our 6 children and 2 dogs. We recently acquired 4 chickens and 2 ducklings. We are just starting out our little farm life and I’m just here for questions and answers about caring for our chicks and ducks!
Thank you so much!
Hello there everyone! My name is Jack, and I am from Queensland in Australia. I have 5 chickens (1 Barred Rock, 3 Australorps, and 1 Barnevelder). In Queensland were are less concerned about foxes and more concerned about pythons, so I’m right now in the process of designing a new coop that is...
We're trying our hand at raising chickens. (Still, or again) We're on our 4th flock (in as many years). The first one was gorgeous. Raise deck, hardy board enclosed. put a heat lamp too close to the hay nests and it burned to the ground, flock enclosed. We're city people and had to do some...
Hello!
So I just received an email from Metzer Farms letting me know my 2 female ducklings will be shipping out Monday and arriving Wednesday! (So excited & nervous)..
I have a bunch of last minute questions/double checking before they get here, if anyone can answer any I'd appreciate it!

I have 1 australorp and 2 speckled Sussex chicks 10-12 weeks old. I have them in a large dog crate and they have lived there since the first of March. I keep sand on the floor and make sure water is clean and fresh and changed daily. I pull the cage out of the garage when the weather is sunny...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens, although my husband has had some experience raising chickens when he was a child and teenager. My dad raised chickens after I was already out of the house and while I learned a lot when visiting, I...
Hi there,
Last week I bought 4 hens and 11 chicks at auction. I've had the coop and run sepereated so that they can all see each other but they can't get to each other yet. I bought four pekin bantams, and an unknown breed of hen and her 11 chicks. The hen and her chicks have been living...
I rescued Rosy the game hen from a busy street a little over a week ago. Monday, I got two new chickens to keep her company. As I'd been told, Rosy was aggressive and pecking with them at first. But has escaped her side of the pen nearly every night to roost with them.
So today she did...
We are new to chickens after buying a home and taking over the care for them! We love them, and unfortunately after months of allowing them to free range, only one of our two returned home today. Knowing chickens are best in pairs and flock animals, we would definitely like to get more soon.
On...
So a couple weeks back we bought a mother hen and six chicks, unfortunately she only accepted four of them (only the ones the same color as her; four were black, the other two were yellow, is this unusual?) and the other two didn't make it. Anyway, at this point the chicks are at least a month...
Hello everyone! I am brand new to Backyard Chickens and wanted to introduce myself. I have two chickens as pets, one is a Barred Rock and the other is a Barnevelder. I have had them for almost a year now. They like to follow me around and sometimes welcome themselves into the house. I have a lot...

Earlier this summer -- in the middle of the day! -- a fox came into my back yard (in a suburb), bull-rushed my chicken run and killed two of my three girls.
My third hen, Goldie, was carried a few 100 yards by the fox, and as a neighbor...

I am fairly new to chickens. My family got a flock about a year ago from friends who were moving and didn't want to take the chickens with, but sadly a raccoon killed most of the members a few months ago. We got chicks to help...

I have an established flock of 6 month old silver laced wyandottes (13) and my cousin is taking a job in south Texas, so I am inheriting her flock of chickens (number she'll bring, unknown, but guessing at least 8) these chickens are no certain breed, they've all inter-bread. But- these chickens...
Hi, my name is Sarah and I'm a new member (long time BYC reader/researcher, first time question).
Yesterday, I received day old chicks in the mail for a broody buff orpington named Buffy. Buffy has been broody for over 3 weeks and 3 days ago I successfully moved her to the broody box. She...
