My 4 and 8 week old chicks lovvvvve their fermented feed. I give it to them in a bowl and as soon as I put it down, a couple chicks always jump in and scratch at it like crazy. It clings to their feet, and as they jump in and out, makes them dirt (and possibly poo) magnets, which they bring back...
I looked for an answer for this, and didn't see it, if it's there.
I'm using an existing storage area on the side of my garage for a Duck coop. It has block walls up most of the way, (not all the way so there will be good venting) and a concrete floor.
Should I seal the block walls and floor...
As I get ready for chicks in the spring, I keep reading that chicks are very dirty/dusty and will ruin a room in your house if you brood them indoors. My mind immediately began considering an attached, but unheated garage which stays around freezing or above in cold weather.

Hey guys,
I am fairly new to chickens and I know I am beating a dead horse here, but just wanted to get some thoughts.
I have a 10x10 run that houses 10 hens (that do get out from time to time) and I’ve had a ton of success with simply adding straw/hay when needed. Expierenced very little...
I have three beautiful great ducks. I've had them just since they were about 5 weeks old. I also have a son a couple dogs and we are thinking about having another baby. My dilemma is they are a lot of work and I'm worried about when the new baby comes how much harder it will be I dont want to...
sometimes when I've been getting my duck eggs in the morning, they've succeeded in submerging the eggs in poopy mud...I never thought this was a problem since I thoroughly wash them before I give them away or sell them. But I recently learned that bacteria CAN penetrate the shell??? wtf *mind...
I have a natural dirt floor back yard with a small patio (tiled) area, two ducks and two chickens. My ducks are the messy ones obviously and the entire backyard gets coated in mud and poo within a day or two. My ducks also have a small kitty pool that I dump out and refill everyday, so obviously...
Hi everyone!
I've been using straw for litter with my chicks. I got them a week ago, and I've changed out the straw once so far. Is this proper litter? Their stomachs look all crusty but not red or irritated. Is this okay? Or is it because the straw is getting wet from the water feeder? Not sure...
We have a kiddie pool in our duck run. It has created a nasty mess. We have to dump the kiddie pool out and refill it at least once a week which has created a standing pool of nasty water in the run. I guess the ground got water logged. If I add sand for the floor of the run won't it get washed...
