    Egg bound? Or something else?

Hi all! So I just came home from vacation and went out to check on my two hens (both 6 years old, a lavender orpington and an olive egger). The orpington, Phoebe, seemed a little off when I went out there. She was a bit lethargic and her wings were drooping, which I originally attributed to the...

    Is this a shelless egg?

Found this yesterday with what appeared to be a broken yolk, a clear gel patch (potentially albumen) and a wet brown poop smear as well, but quite distinct from each other. I did recently buy 4 point of lay Rhode Island reds recently...and then today I found remnants of an eggshell with the...

    Rust colored Spots in egg!!!

This is my second year with ducks, we just have three female Indian runners. I cracked this egg today and noticed some slimy orange/rust colored spots inside the egg shell. I tossed the egg as there was a slight off putting smell from that spot. The yolk and white all looked normal. Any idea...

    Calcium balls attracted to egg?

Hi all One of my hens (I am not 100% sure which one) has been for the past 2 weeks atleast, probably longer laying eggs with what I am assuming is calcium deposits attached to the shell of the eggs. They are super tiny round balls some of them rub off but most are super stuck. It almost looks...

Helping chick out of egg shell

When do you guys decide to interfere with a chick hatching? I have one that pipped last night and hasn’t hatched yet. I know this is normal but it hasn’t been chirping or moving like all it’s siblings did. I’m afraid it’s week or something. I can see the beak moving but not doing anything.

Duckling Only Halfway Out Shell HELP (pic included)

After about 48 hours since the external pip, the duckling managed to break out but for about half an hour hasn't been able to get the other half of the shell off. I'm scared he can't get out and I don't know if I need to assist or just to wait it out. Does anyone have advice?

Should I be worried about these eggs?

In the past week I have had two soft shell eggs from two different hens, one is an Ameraucana just under a year (started laying around 9 months) and a silkie or silkie mix (not sure who of these two laid it) the silkie is a little over a year and the silkie mix is just under a year. I have never...

    Soft shelled eggs?

Hi all! I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a lot of soft shelled eggs. I can't figure out which hen is laying them, but she lays about one soft-shelled eggs about once a week. They the other chickens step on them, and make a runny mess. I'm worried they will start eating them, and...

Thin shelled eggs from only one hen

One of my hens has been laying very thin shelled eggs for a few months. They often break in the nesting box, or when we pick them up. They're also a much lighter color than normal (almost white - They're normally brown). She's a little over a year old. We feed the Texas Natural layer pellets...

3 day old embryo stuck to shell?

Hi there! I recently purchased my first ever incubator, a Brinsea mini Advance ii. After putting eggs in, for the first two days, I did not realize that the automatic turner (which turns the eggs every 45 minutes), was not running long enough to completely rotate the top down to the bottom and...

    Duckling Can't Hatch!

I'll try to get up pictures soon. We have a duckling who externally pipped and then hasn't hatched for at least 24 hours, if not days. We decided it would be best to help it, so today we chipped a tiny bit of the shell off and left it for a while. When it didn't try to hatch anymore, we chipped...
