Are weather says in a few days the night will get down to 1 degree F. Most of the are in larger groups of 20+. Can a group on bantams take that temp? We have standard sized chickens and bantams. Is there anything in particular I can do to help keep them warmer other than supplemental heat? Thx,
Hello! As some of you may know, winter is approaching, and its coming fast! And it also happens to be our Jumbo Pekin duck's first winter. I've been browsing a lot online to try to find out how to make her outdoor enclosure suitable for the chilly whether, but almost all of it is targeted...
With summer ending, fall starting I’m starting to think about winter. This is my first winter with ducks. I’ve had chickens during winter but they stay in the coop all day when it’s super cold and snowing heavily. I’m scared about my ducks getting buried in the snow. I’m in West Virginia so...
I got some gorgeous Barnevelders and Silkies at the end of November. I've been brooding them in my house, but they're getting crowded in their brooder. I'm not sure when I can put them outside. The temps dip below freezing at night. They have a large Formex coop that they'll be going into...
I live in northern Ontario (Canada) where our winters average around -20C (-4f) and wonder how BYC members deal and manage there flock with this type of cold weather throughout the winter.
There are many methods such as having a heat lamp set up all winter long (scared to have a power outage...
I just bought a heated roost to place inside the coop for my two roosters at Tractor Supply. I would like to get some feedback from others on how well this might work. The one online is different than the one I bought. I will try to take a photo of the roost tomorrow to show you what I...
So, this will be my first winter with the Quail.. what advice have you for those of us that are new?
Of course, we all live in different places, I in the UK would have different considerations to someone in New England, someone in Qatar, or New Zealand (Summer there anyway I think).
So, whilst...
Hi, Guys!
It's been getting cold here in Maine (finally!), and being relatively new duck parents, we are of course ridiculously nervous about our feathered family and making sure we are doing right by them as winter sets in. I know, I know. Ducks have the best little down jackets, and ducks do...
Hi folks. I'm sure this has been asked and answered, but couldn't find it. I have kept my peacocks in the same run as the chickens and ducks for about a year now. This summer I let the peacocks out and they have been living around the front porch or back porch, perching on the wood stacks at...
hi everyone today we had are first snow and the birds water has frozen. we let are birds free range and I went to check on them and their feet were pinker than usual we do not have a heater in the coop because of fire hazards and are coop is to far away to run a extension cord I gave them some...
Hi there! We have three beautiful chicken tractors we built this spring (see picture) and our initial plan for winter was to park them inside three separate secondhand ShelterLogic-style sheds from November to March. The tractors are 8x10' and the sheds we wanted to get are 10x20'. We plan on...
Hey guys :)
This is the first year we've had bobwhite quail. We have ten Jumbo Wisconsins we hatched in spring. My question is this: what kinds of fruit can they eat, and what kinds can't they eat? There's rather low amounts of info on raising bobwhites on the internet so I've turned to BYC. I...
Hello.
Does anyone have experience with a 7month old turkey that has symptoms of Mycoplasma-respitory illness? And is the meat safe to eat?
Been caring for 11 chickens and 1 turkey for the first time since April 2017. They have been staying together in large pen and occasionally get let out...
