I got 2 in a 13 piece artist sketching set for Christmas.

Those should last you a while. Depending on how much shading you'll be doing, they probably won't get extremely dirty until you use them for several months.

I got a package of them for Christmas as well. It came with a bunch of different sizes, randing from 1/8 to 7 1/2. They can get pretty big.

I have to do about five weeks of make-up work...

If you aren't careful, you can get very very behind while homeschooling.

Same here. I had it several years ago; it was awful.​
