Lol!
Oh, and you own horses right, HCCLK? I'm looking into purchasing a horse (finally!) and figured since some of you guys on BYC own one I had some questions. Such as how much for the farrier and how do I know if the horse even needs shoes? What about feed? What do you regularly feed your horses? I've looked it up on Google and am overwhelmed with all my options.
I would suggest Purina feeds, how old is your horse, and unless your horse really needs a LOT of energy and will be using up a lot of energy every day, don't feed sweet feed, it just gives them a sugar rush and it makes some horses go crazy. Oats are utterly useless, they go in one end and out the other whole, so your horse doesn't need them. I would suggest splitting quantities into once in the morning and once in the evening. You can calculate your horses weight and I think body length, er something like that to find out how much to feed per day.
Farriers can be anywhere from 20 to 60 dollars, depending on the farrier. Horseshoes put a LOT of strain on their leg joints and can cause a lot of sliding too. I would suggest barefoot, as long as your horse doesn't have really tender feet, his feet should harden up and do just fine without shoes. [ tough flaps of skin growing on the hoof are natural for barefoot horses, so don't be alarmed if you see some of it ]
Hope this helps!
