Well, dog's shed too! and they don't exactly barf through the whole house like dogs shed!
Spraying can be dealt with in numerous ways!

There is such a thing as an indoor cat, and also fenced run designed for cats, like a dog kennel. So that solves the mice and the roadkill, along with most outdoor odors.

Shedding isn't as bad as a mass of wet, clumpy, smelly hair. I'm so used to seeing my dogs shed it isn't such a big deal, it's just like normal hair.

I never heard the spraying thing, interesting.

Not always, or at least in my cases they stunk up the house or made me step in their poop or barf.

Because when cats are kittens they don't poo/pee on the carpet!

I have both, and love them both!

idk, my cats rarely ever barfed.

It's not like normal hair to people who see you in dog haired clothes!

People really nowadays should pay attention to where they put their feet...
