That's why I'm a bit reluctant to get anything else besides chickens. Cats, dogs, rabbits even: they all need vet care and shots and lots of food...

First be sure you'll be able to pay. Horses can get VERY expensive, and it's unfortunately one of the most common reasons why people surrender their horses.

My tips are to try getting the cheapest, but still friendliest, horse possible. Just make sure it's able to do what you want it to do, though. Companion horses are generally less. And get cheap/used tack on craigslist or a horse trading website, it might be worth it depending on the quality. Fresh eggs are also a good tool of trade.

I've been working on my parents since I was 4, and I've gotten to lease, just no horse.

Although, thanks to the WONDERFUL woman I lease from, I'm getting into equestrian sports such as Polocrosse, since my area doesn't have a Pony Club.

They're the same as yours, CD25, it's all about the money.

I understand, I just get frustrated.

And CONGRATS, Zinnia!

There are some pretty cheap ones around here, although I am not sure how cheap, I know that they are cheap from people I know who have horses. We have enough land, and I actually already have a saddle, so those are already taken care of... But then again, some people are willing to give away their horse for free, so long as they have a good place to go. magistradomina has actually been offerd a horse for free, but her parents are still deciding if they want it

Yup. Some people who need to get rid of their horses quickly because they're either sick, too poor, moving, or what ever sometimes give away their horses for free or a dollar. My aunt's friend had to do that when she had her baby.

Sounds cool. Maybe if they don't want it you can have it.

Maybe you can check out a horse rescue place nearby.

I would love love love to take it, but if I did, I would feel like taking it away from her
hmm.png
I'd have to make up for it by letting her come over very, very often to ride
lol.png
Of course, I wouldn't mind.

Oh, and its thundering outside! Maybe we'll have some rain!!!

Me or her?

For me: I have been lately. I'm interested in rescuing PMU mares or Thoroughbreds who are about to be put down because they were injured or not good enough for racing. Though, they aren't nessicarily the easiest to train, the PMU mare's at least (they don't get attention and pretty much never get handled).
