And about the baby chick with the crooked toe, if it's not so bad that he/she can't walk properly, then it should be fine. I have a Red Star hen that has a crooked toe that is hereditary, which means that if she hatches chicks out, they will also have the same crooked toe as her. It's a little noticeable, because the toe is bent sideways, but it has never caused any problems.
Can your chick walk OK on its own? How old is it?
