There's also a species called Betta imbellis, or Peaceful Betta. The males aren't as agressive, but you have to feed them live or freeze-dried food at least three or four times a week.

Oh, now, isn't that interesting. Are they small, these Betta fish? If they are, I wonder what kind of 'live' stuff you could feed them, as they could hardly eat other fish if they're small.

One book's description of them....
'The coloration of this betta is brown-purple, with rows of iridescent scales which form horizontal bars. A short dorsal fin with blue streaks is set well back. The pointed picky fin is long based and similarly colored, but with a red rear section. Red also marks the front of the elongated pelvic fins. Females are a plainer brown.'

2. poor females, the ugly ones

1. Don't know.
2. Same in lots of fish.

Daphnia, Fairy Shrimp, Tubifex, Mosquito larvae, Bloodworms, Earthworms, White worms, Snails, and Mealworms.
